DOORS OPEN by Sheena McLean

Doors Open will start again on Monday 7th January 2013. Hope you can come along and visit us some morning (weekdays 10 a.m. - 11.45 a.m.)

A Doors Open Story that makes it all worthwhile

May Oattes and Jimmy Craig noticed two women looking round the church in September this year.  May spoke to them and discovered that it was Shirley Webb nee McInnes and her daughter who were over on a visit from Canada.

Shirley had been married in Williamwood in 1954.

As Jimmy had keys for the church he was able to let them see inside the church.  Needless to say Shirley was delighted and very impressed by the Iona Chapel.  She remembered the halls where she had been in the Girls Guildry.

Jimmy promised to find out if anyone remembered Shirley and he is in touch by e-mail.  Below is Shirley’s wedding photograph which has been sent to Jimmy.  If anyone remembers Shirley please speak to Jimmy Craig who can put you  in touch.

During the months of July and August "Doors Open will not operate. We will start up again on 3rd September and look forward to seeing as many visitors as possible.

As you know, Doors Open operates each weekday from 10.00 until 11.45 and we look forward to seeing anyone who comes to visit the Church.

What I would like to ask you is this: Do you have 2 hours to spare perhaps twice a month (or more)? We really could do with more Wardens.

It is not a difficult task and all of us who are involved enjoy meeting friends old and new who come along. Another 4 or so volunteers would make all the difference so please give this your consideration. If there is anything you would like to know about, please contact me and I will be delighted to tell you all about Doors Open.

Doors Open will close on Friday 16th December 2011 and restart again on Monday 9th January, 2012.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Very Happy Christmas and a Good New Year.

Doors Open starts again on 1st September.  The Church is open each weekday morning from 10.00 until 11.45.  Please come along and visit. Perhaps you might like to have a place of quiet in the Iona Chapel, or you may want to find out more of the history of Williamwood Church.  We will be delighted to see you and hope as many people as possible can come along.

You may want to join the team of Wardens.  Each person is on duty about two days each month and a few more wardens would make a big difference.  Please come along and find out all about Open Doors or you may want to contact me as   0141 639 1686 or e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. During the months of July and August Doors Open does not operate.  We start again on Thursday 1 September.

Thanks to all those who have helped during the last year and we hope you will be able to be ‘on duty’ again in the next session

We are Open every weekday from 10 am until 11.45 for anyone who would like to visit Williamwood Church for whatever reason.  The wardens will make you most welcome and perhaps you might like to even join the team of Wardens.  At present there are 24 of us which means that we have to be "on duty" once every 2 - 3 weeks.  Even if you can only manage one day a month, it would make a great difference to know that there are other people we can call on to help.  If you can spare a few hours every month, please let me know and we can discuss what days suit you best.  We would be delighted to have you with us.

Doors Open commences 1st September and the Church and Iona Chapel will be opened from 10.00am until 11.45 from Monday to Friday.

Please come along and visit us, you will all be made most welcome.

The Church is open every weekday morning from 10 o'clock until 11.45 am.   Please come along to visit us and enjoy some quiet in this busy world.  The Iona Chapel is also open if you wish privacy and peace.  You can also learn a bit about the history of Williamwood Church or sit quietly in contemplation, reflection or prayer without disturbance. The Wardens will be delighted to see you and can offer you tea or coffee and a biscuit.  Hope you will come along - we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

Whatever your reason, your visit will give us great pleasure.
